After the bombing, 168 new doctors

From out of the ruins of Gaza’s hospitals an incredible story of resilience and hope – doctors complete their advanced specialist training. Standing proud in their robes, in front of the bombed out Al-Shifa Medical Complex, they received their certificates.
More than 168 Palestinian doctors were awarded their advanced medical qualifications amid the rubble and destruction of what was once the Palestinian territory’s largest hospital.
It was an act of resilience by the doctors awarded their Palestinian Board certifications under extraordinary circumstances, through two years of Israel’s genocidal war.
The doctors had studied and sat for examinations while working nonstop inside Gaza’s hospitals under attack, during forced starvation, displacement and death. Some were also injured, arrested or had family members killed. Gaza Health Ministry official Youssef Abu al-Rish described the ceremony as graduation from “the womb of suffering, under bombardment, among rubble and rivers of blood.”
The ceremony included empty chairs displaying photographs of healthcare workers killed during the war. Their lives were commemorated in the ceremony.
